Project “Tolerance-2010”

The photography exhibition by the Spanish photographer Jose Antonio de Lamadrid “The Others: Christian, Muslim and Jewish Minorities in Three Mediterranean Countries” was launched at the Tolerance Center of the Vilnius Gaon State Jewish Museum on 15 June 2010. It was initiated by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Vilnius, joining the project “Tolerance-2010”. Photographs by Jose Antonio de Lamadrid depict everyday life of people of religious minorities in three different countries. They are Jews in Morocco, Christians in Turkey and Muslims in Spain. Visiting Casablanca, Istanbul and Talajuela. The photographer portrayed the life of local communities and families there. The photographer portrays the beliefs, joys and sorrows, and the surroundings. At a closer look, we can see that different as our lives are the common human spirit unites us all.

 Ieva Šadzevičienė, the head of the Tolerance Center, welcomed the visitors, saying that she was happy with the active participation of the embassies and culture centres based in Vilnius in the project “Tolerancija-2010. Jose Lius Solando Gadea, the Spanish ambassador, and Stefania Del Bravo, director of the Italian Institute of Culture, also addressed the visitors. Jose Antonio de Lamadrid spoke about his work.
