This edition is the continuation of bibliographical index “The Jewish Theme in Lithuanian Press” (1985–1989; 1990–1991).
The edition contains bibliographical entries for all the items (articles, essays, short information, reports of news agencies, etc.) from the Lithuanian periodical press which refer to Jewish themes, mainly focused on Lithuanian Jews.
For this Index, virtually all of the Lithuanian Republic’s periodical press from the Annual Indexes of Lithuanian press of 1992 and 1993 was examined, with the exception of scientific, technical, medical and other specialized publications. The publications appeared in Lithuanian, Polish, Russian and English. The periodical press was researched de visu (directly).
Each article appears as a separate, numbered entry and each entry includes short summaries in Lithuanian, Russian, and English. Under each topic, the entries are alphabetized and language-divided, with those from the Lithuanian-language publications appearing first, then those from the Polish-language publications, those from English, and finally those from the Russian-language sources. The alphabetical order of entries can be broken in event a bibliographical entry of some article are followed by bibliographical entries of responses to this article. Bibliographical entries of articles from different sources but of the same content are grouped together and united by a single annotation. In that case the alphabetical order of entries can be broken too. The asterisk (*) at the number of bibliographical entry indicates the identity of the texts of different articles with different titles or in different languages, etc.; the asterisk (*) at the Lithuanian title of a publication indicates that the article also appears simultaneously in Polish-, Russian-, or Yiddish-language issues.
Annotations are provided in Lithuanian, Russian and English. Lithuanian place-names are given in their present-day form of writing.
In some entries only the initials of the authors’ names are provided for the reason that the article was signed only with these initials. Therefore, full name is absent from a corresponding bibliographical entry.
At the end of the Index there are lists of reviewed periodicals, listings of people’s names and places and a four-language (Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, and English) glossary of months.
We hope this publication will be useful for researchers and for all those who are interested in the history of Lithuanian Jews. We welcome any suggestions for the improvement of this publication.
